TRIVIA:

This episode was originally scheduled to air on February 11, 1983, but was replaced with a repeat showing of Just My Bill.

This is the first episode that turns K.I.T.T. against Michael, and establishes that his programming can be changed. This theme is also explored in the later episodes Soul Survivor, Lost Knight and Killer K.I.T.T.

A scene cut from this episode can be seen in the second season premiere Goliath. In the original version, after Michael knocks the guard unconscious, a driver-less K.I.T.T. crashes through the gate to the Helios estate. Garthe Knight watches this footage on television.

The Helios videotape presentation of K.I.T.T.'s abilities is made up of clips from Knight of the Phoenix, Deadly Maneuvers, Good Day at White Rock, Slammin' Sammy's Stunt Show Spectacular and The Final Verdict.

The genius society is called Helios, named for "the Greek sun-god, the god of brilliance, who rode to his palace in a chariot of gold."

Lynne Topping worked with David Hasselhoff on daytime soap The Young and the Restless.

SCRIPT TO SCREEN:

The script describes Deauville as "A distinguished, portly man... a John Houseman look-alike, with a preoccupied, worried air."

The scene at the end of Act One in which Ellen Sullivan screens the video of K.I.T.T. was planned to be intercut with the early scene where Michael checks Dr. Litton's blood pressure.

A cut sequence saw Michael being forced to take the Helios entrance exam. Told sarcastically to use every resource at his disposal, Michael cheats and uses K.I.T.T. instead.
