TRIVIA:
K.A.R.R. previously appeared in the first season episode TRUST DOESN'T RUST. Voice artist Paul Frees takes over from Peter Cullen here, and doesn't receive a credit -- like William Daniels' K.I.T.T., this trick gives the car an identity of its own.
K.A.R.R. has undergone several changes since we last saw him. Aside from the now-yellow scanner and vanity "K.A.R.R." license plate, he is also less concerned with his dominant program -- that of self-preservation. Here he is out for revenge...
Seemingly destroyed at the conclusion of this episode, this is the last we see of K.A.R.R. Sequel series TEAM KNIGHT RIDER featured a K.I.T.T. Vs. K.A.R.R.-inspired story in which F.L.A.G. developed another prototype vehicle after Michael and K.I.T.T. Called K.R.O. and built in the form of a black Ferrari, this vehicle also went wrong and had to be destroyed.
Jeffrey Osterhage was on the shortlist of actors, along with Don Johnson and Steven Bauer, to win the role of Michael Knight.
SCRIPT TO SCREEN:
K.A.R.R.'s voice is described in the script as "a Darth Vader-ish rumble."
John Stanton was originally named John Stewart, and Eddie Dexter was originally Eddie Dayton. The climax of the show originally planned for K.A.R.R. to hijack an armored train.
A little digging by Michael and K.I.T.T. would have revealed that John had a prior criminal record, serving six months for grand theft auto and trafficking stolen merchandise. K.A.R.R. mentions it to talk him into helping with the bank robbery, but it is cut from the episode.
Originally, when Michael visited Mr. D's Marina, K.A.R.R. had already left and Michael found a corroded Alpha Capacitor in his place. The scene was revised later on, placing Michael in jeopardy and bringing K.I.T.T. and K.A.R.R. face-to-face.
