By the end of this episode, Michael has taught K.I.T.T. how to play football, and K.I.T.T. even scores a touchdown!

The Dagger DX is an Italian-produced custom car with a double-turbo 600-horse engine, 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 200-plus mph. It is totally illegal to drive in the USA by all civilized standards.

Allen Williams previously appeared in the episode DEADLY MANEUVERS. Tim Rossovich also appeared in the first season story THE FINAL VERDICT.

Very similar to the finished episode from the very first draft, Richard Okie's Knight of the Fast Lane script still contains some interesting differences. As with other third season episodes, every effort was being made to create automotive adversaries to rival K.I.T.T. (the Drone cars in KNIGHT OF THE DRONES, the Killer Car in CUSTOM MADE KILLER). Here the Dagger DX (originally named The Vector) was conceived as a one-of-a-kind superfast vehicle with a K.I.T.T.-like dash that could genuinely give him a run for his money.

Once again Michael makes a reference that he's glad to have Bonnie back. It doesn't make the episode, although a similar statement made it into THE ICE BANDITS.
