SYNOPSIS:
After a couple of thieves steal jewels from a Foundation-sponsored charity auction, Michael and K.I.T.T. are led to the Napa wine country and a monastery that provides criminals with totally new identities.

TRIVIA:
This is the first episode to feature K.I.T.T.'s new dash in the opening titles. KNIGHT OF THE DRONES, like KNIGHT OF THE JUGGERNAUT the following season, concealed the new additions to the car with opening titles exclusive to the episode.
The crooked Dr. Fellows is the only character outside the PILOT EPISODE to note that Michael has undergone extensive plastic surgery. Michael explains that his face was "too popular with the cops."
The so-called "illegal operations" take place at the Monastery of the Grape. To enter one must order a glass of Chateau Neuf du Pape -- a French wine in a Californian winery.
K.I.T.T.'s Turbo Boost over the intersection comes from the episode DIAMONDS AREN'T A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND.
SCRIPT TO SCREEN:
Michael's confrontation with Austin was originally much more elaborate, with a planned chase up a hillside, and Austin dropping rocks in Michael's path.
In the early drafts of the script, Winters tried to escape at the conclusion of the story by hot-air balloon.
