Knight Rider Comic Book Updates!

After the announcement yesterday that NBC Universal has teamed with Lion Forge Comics to produce digital comic book versions of some of their beloved TV shows, we have now learned that the Knight Rider book will be written by Geoff Thorne (Leverage, Ben 10) with art from Jason Johnson.

Johnson tweeted his enthusiasm for the project last night (“Sweet!”), while Thorne spoke with the Knight Rider Archives promising to do his “best to make it cool.” Thorne told us that this new book will actually be a reboot, “but you’ll find all of it very familiar. As always we have to find a balance between new and old fans. I think we will.”

Keep your scanners peeled for more announcements about this exciting new Knight Rider project!

Knight Rider to Return as Comic Book!

Knight Rider is to return as a new comic book, thanks to a deal between NBC Universal and Lion Forge Comics! The St. Louis-based publishers also have the rights to produce digital comics based on Airwolf, Miami Vice, Punky Brewster and Saved By The Bell.

“Partnering with the team at Lion Forge to bring classic TV properties to life in graphic novel format was a natural step for us as we continue to identify new ways to entertain our fans in the digital space,” explains Chris Lucero, director of Global Consumer Products Licensing for NBC Universal Television. “We’re excited to give fans a chance to revisit some of their favorite shows and characters in a completely new way.”

“From hugely popular characters such as Crockett and Tubbs, Zack Morris and Punky Brewster to highly stylized music and clothing choices, these TV franchises have had a significant impact on pop culture,” Lion Forge CEO David Steward said in a statement. The company’s goal is to extend “that influence by creating visually appealing and entertaining experiences on mobile devices for a whole new generation of fans.”

The writers currently signed to work on the projects are Joelle Sellner (Teen Titans, Jackie Chan Adventures), Jonathan London (Geekscape), Geoffrey Thorne (Leverage, Ben 10) and David Gorden (Catalyst Prime). Artists include Jason Johnson (Wetworks), Carl Reed and Lorenzo Lizana.

The comics are scheduled to debut later this year and will be available through the Amazon Kindle Bookstore, Apple’s iBooks, Barnes & Noble’s Nook Book Store and Kobo.

New Screenwriter Attached to Knight Rider Movie

The long-gestating Knight Rider movie is revving up again.

The Weinstein Co., who bought the film rights to Knight Rider from Glen A. Larson several years ago, have attached filmmaker Brad Copeland to write a new draft of the script. Copeland’s credits include episodes of Arrested Development, My Name Is Earl, and The Inbetweeners, and he also wrote the screenplays for the movies Yogi Bear and Wild Hogs.

Copeland’s background in comedy will concern fans of the series, who have been vocal that the project should honor the original with a serious approach. The Los Angeles Times reports that “The new Knight Rider is being conceived as a somewhat higher-budget, more action-oriented movie than Weinstein’s typical prestige fare”, so it may not all be bad news. A Knight Rider for the silver screen would likely attempt to tap into the audience for the Fast & Furious franchise.

Father’s Day Gift Ideas

“People need heroes. People need dads.”
– David Hasselhoff, I Love 1983, BBC Television

It’s Father’s Day this weekend, a holiday that fits well with the core family values at the heart of the show. The series was filled with father figures and good role models, from Wilton Knight and Devon Miles, to Michael Knight himself. Give him Knight Rider for Father’s Day: there is no better way to say thanks to the men who made a difference.

Here are some Father’s Day gift ideas for the Knight Rider fan…

Ties are the traditional Father’s Day gift, but since there aren’t any Knight Rider ties currently on the market, why not go with a Knight Rider t-shirt! There are many different designs to choose from, featuring different logos, David Hasselhoff, K.I.T.T., and different slogans (‘K.I.T.T. Happens’, ‘Keep Your Scanners Peeled’). T-shirts tend to average between $17 – $20.

Knight Rider on DVD

Why not complete his collection of Knight Rider episodes on DVD! Seasons are available separately, and prices have fallen to average approximately $17, but there is also The Complete Series Collection which comes in a fantastic box with a scanner and sound effects!

Alternatively, have a look around our stores (if you are outside of the United States, many of these products are also available to UK and Germany consumers). It can be tough finding that perfect gift year after year, but if he’s a fan he’d love something Knight Rider-related.
