TRIVIA:

Look carefully in the background at the start and finish of the road race and you'll see the Bates Motel from the Psycho movies. It appears deliberately in the third season episode Halloween Knight.

Robin Dearden also appears in the episode Buy Out. Kai Wulff also returns in the third season, playing the mobile assassin Flood in Custom Made Killer.

This episode was rebroadcast during the show's second season on NBC.

This episode contains another dig at rival show The Dukes of Hazzard: The Prince brothers perish in their orange Dodge Charger when a bomb is detonated by the saboteur. At the time, NBC were keen to play up the rivalry between the two series; early Knight Rider promotional posters sat K.I.T.T. next to an orange Dodge Charger proclaiming "The Competition is No Competition."

SCRIPT TO SCREEN:

The scene in which Devon informs Michael of the case went through various changes between script and screen. As written it was to take place in the semi immediately before Michael asks Bonnie out to dinner. It was later shifted to the set for Devon's office, and a chunk of the unused footage makes it to the episode's Teaser ("K.I.T.T. can win this race with one booster behind his back."). The episode itself re-edits the sequence, having Devon brief Michael from his office on K.I.T.T.'s monitor.
